Thursday, 2 October 2008 - Augusta House (152 Augusta Ave) - 10:00 PM - $5.00

TORONTO – Media Democracy Day Toronto and Augusta House are proud to present Raise Your Voice, a night of music and momentum featuring DJ M-Dash, DJ MFFN and Babylon Telecom on Thursday, 2 October 2008. The event is being held in advance of Media Democracy Day itself, which will be celebrated on Thursday, 23 October 2008.

Media Democracy Day is an annual event held in cities across Canada. In Toronto this year, the theme is “What’s Missing in the Media?” - events, workshops and screenings will address the imbalance of power in the Canadian media landscape, as well as providing tools and knowledge for those who wish to get active.

The day will be hosted at the University of Toronto’s International Student Centre at 33 St. George Street on Thursday, 23 October from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and will be followed by the rabble.ca relaunch party at the Steamwhistle Roundhouse at 255 Bremner Boulevard at 8:00 PM. Additional events during the same week are to be announced.

Raise Your Voice will be a night of celebration and collaboration, giving Toronto’s media activists and concerned citizens a chance to come together in an upbeat club setting. The event has been spearheaded by Toronto’s own DJ M-Dash, a writer, editor and activist who is a member of the Media Democracy Day committee. He will be joined by DJ MFFN, a hometown DJ who successfully juggles the club and indie circuits, and Babylon Telecom, a DJ/live production project launched by committee member and MediaReform.ca founder Matt Blair.

Augusta House is located at 152 Augusta Avenue. The doors will open at 10:00 PM, and there will be a $5.00 cover charge to raise funds for Media Democracy Day expenses. For more information on Media Democracy Day and related events, visit missinginthemedia.ca.
